Google, which acquired Israeli navigation application Waze earlier this year, has started adding data from Waze users to its mobile Maps application.

Accidents, road works and road closures reported by Waze users in the UK will now appear on the Google Maps app for Android and iOS.

Motorola’s recently-announced Moto X smartphone has an innovative new NFC-powered accessory.

The Motorola Skip is a small clip that provides the security of a PIN without the user needing to remember a code. It can automatically unlock the phone when the two devices are touched together.

Amazon makes it easier for developers to add cross-platform notifications to mobile apps

Amazon Web Services, the part of Amazon.com that offers cloud-based computer infrastructure to companies, has announced a new service for mobile application developers.

It’s expanded its Amazon Simple Notification Service (which already offers email and SMS notification) to include ‘Mobile Push’, enabling a single Application Programming Interface to send notifications to Apple iOS, Google Android and Kindle Fire devices.

Microsoft shutting down Microsoft Tag barcode system

Scanbuy now licensing the technology

Microsoft Tag, which was launched five years ago as an alternative to QR codes, is closing in two years’ time.

For the next two years the service will be supported by Scanbuy, which will add Microsoft Tag Technology to its ScanLife platform from next month.
