A new logo for Microsoft

Microsoft has updated its company logo for the first time in 25 years, moving away from the old italic-style logo.

The new logo, which will be used for the Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 operating systems when they’re launched later this year, utilises the Segoe font that’s already featured on newer Microsoft products and marketing communications.

A number of technology companies have launched an industry alliance that’s aimed at driving the innovation and adoption of indoor positioning services.

The new partnership is called the In-Location Alliance and it’s being supported by 22 companies.

New operational structure will see Sony Mobile cutting around 1,000 staff

Sony Mobile Communications AB says it’s relocating its corporate headquarters from the Swedish city of Lund to Tokyo in October this year; a decision that will see around 15% of staff - approximately 1,000 people - losing their jobs by the end of March 2014.

Lund will remain as a key Sony Mobile site with a new focus on software and application development.

Gaming company PopCap warns of job cuts

Mobile and social gaming company PopCap, which joined EA last year, has warned that around 50 US-based employees will lose their jobs as the result of a reorganisation.

An ‘exploratory consultation’ is also evaluating the future of the company’s Dublin office.
