InMobi says Apple remains the most popular mobile manufacturer in the UK

Independent mobile advertising network InMobi has published the UK edition of its Quarterly Mobile Insights Report for January to March 2012.

The number of mobile ads displayed using InMobi’s UK network increased to 9.5 billion over the 90 day period, with smartphone usage increasing by 12% from the previous quarter.

New research shows that most over 50s are now choosing smartphones

The latest research data from Kantar Worldpanel ComTech reveals that smartphones now account for most mobile phone purchases by the over 50s in Great Britain.

Across all ages, smartphones accounted for 74.4% of all mobile sales in the past 12 weeks.

Barclays Pingit expands person-to-person mobile payments to all UK bank customers

The Barclays Pingit person-to-person mobile payment service is now available to customers from all UK banks and building societies.

Barclays Pingit, which was launched in February to Barclays customers, allows users to send and receive money by using a mobile phone number instead of requiring bank account and sort code details.

Google Currents news and entertainment app launches worldwide

Google Currents, the online content app for Android and iOS devices that launched in the USA last December, has now been made available worldwide.

Nearly 400 ‘publisher’ editions and over 14,000 self-produced publications are now available on Currents.

Over 118 million tablets expected to be sold this year

Figures from Gartner forecast that worldwide media tablet sales will total 118.9 million units this year, a 98% increase from last year’s end-user sales of 60 million units.

Apple iPad devices are expected to account for 61.4% of all tablet sales (73 million tablets) in 2012. Android follows with 31.9%; just under 38 million tablets.
