Everything Everywhere will generate over a fifth of the UK's telecoms revenue this year

A new report from Pyramid Research says Everything Everywhere, the company behind the merged Orange and T-Mobile UK businesses, has become the country's telecom market leader. It estimates that 21% of total UK telecom market revenue will come from the new company.

O2 UK introduces 'eco rating' for mobile phones

O2 has launched what it's describing as "the first ever eco rating system for mobile phones in the UK. It's persuaded six of the largest handset manufacturers to participate - Nokia, Sony Ericsson, HTC, LG, Samsung and Palm – and has placed the Sony Ericsson Elm top out of the 65 mobiles it surveyed, giving it an 4.3 out of 5 (86%) Eco rating.

Google puts phone calls in Gmail

Google’s Gmail email service already includes instant messaging along with voice and video chat. The company has now added conventional phone calls to the Gmail interface. This option is currently only available within the USA, although the company says its working on making this available more broadly. A special voice and video plug-in needs to be installed; it’s available for Windows, Mac and Linux computers.
