Clear Mobitel has been granted a license by Ofcom to operate '4G' Long Term Evolution technology in Jersey. It allows Clear Mobitel to use the 2600MHz band for providing high-speed mobile broadband services.

Telecoms research company IDATE says the world market for femtocells is ready for take-off. The compound annual growth rate for femtocell sales between 2010 and 2014 is expected to be 159%. This means 23 million femtocells will be shipped worldwide in 2014, making the total market worth 931 million Euro (around £786 million).

Orange has launched the first in a series of Orange-branded Android devices for the UK. It's called the 'San Francisco' and will cost £99 on a 'pay as you go' tariff. Alternatively, the handset is available on 'pay monthly' contracts.

A report on MobileEurope.co.uk says mass market NFC-based mobile payments are expected to hit London in time for the 2012 Olympics. Pablo Montesano, Telefonica’s Director of Mobile Financial Services, is quoted as saying "I expect there to be a lot of activity in this space in London before the Olympics, with a significant push from several players. The reality is no-one knows when this will take off, but we are moving closer than ever to the tipping point."

A report in French newspaper Le Figaro (reported by MobileBusinessBriefing.com) says Stephane Richard, the CEO of France Telecom, wants to meet the heads of Deutsche Telekom, Telefonica and Vodafone on 8th October to talk about creating a common OS for mobile devices.
