Takeover of T-Mobile USA is called off

US telecom giant AT&T has called off its planned acquisition of T-Mobile USA from Deutsche Telekom. As a result, AT&T will pay Deutsche Telekom a previously agreed ‘break up’ fee that’s expected to cost it around $4 billion.

The acquisition deal was originally valued at $39 billion.

Vodafone invests in affordable fuel cells for mobile phone networks

CellEra, an Israeli company that is developing platinum-free fuel cell technology, has announced a $9.2 million investment round led by Vodafone Ventures and Carmel Ventures.

Vodafone Ventures is the global venture capital arm of Vodafone Group.

Yes, the company’s sold millions of BlackBerry phones - but PlayBook sales haven’t been good, its new OS is delayed and its market share appears to be falling. You could argue that 2012 is a make-or-break year for Research In Motion... or at least for its current management.

BT has the latest anti-Android complaint

Intellectual property analyst Florian Mueller notes that BT is the latest large company to start a patent infringement case against Google’s Android operating system.

Apple, eBay, Microsoft and Oracle have all previously started legal proceedings.

Azzurri Communications announces new chairman and CEO

Azzurri Communications, which provides voice, data and mobile managed services in the UK, has announced the completion of its planned refinancing process. It says this puts the business in a strong and stable position, with new funding facilities to run until June 2014.

In addition, it’s made some new senior appointments.
