Research In Motion has published its quarterly results for June, July and August.
Revenue in the second quarter was $4.2 billion, down 15% from the previous quarter and down 10% year-on-year. 73% of this was generated by hardware, 24% from service, and 3% by software and other sources.

A new report from Juniper Research says mobile network operators urgently need to spend billions of dollars increasing capacity and optimising their backhaul networks to meet the demands of mobile broadband users.
The report calculates that operators need to spend almost $840 billion (£530 billion) globally over the next five years.

Frank Meehan is stepping down from his role as CEO of Hutchison Whampoa-owned INQ Mobile.
He’ll now be working with other technology businesses owned by Li Ka-shing, the chairman of Hutchison Whampoa. Mr Meehan is on the board of Spotify, TOM, TOUT and Trapit.

Google has introduced a new version of its Google Goggles app for Android smartphones.
Previously the standard application allowed users to search online by taking photos from within the app; this new version can also work in the background to analyse all photos taken by the phone.
