HP plans its own virtual magazine for TouchPad tablet users

HP says it'll be publishing a monthly magazine-like application that'll be sent 'over the air' to all HP TouchPad customers.

It's called HP webOS Pivot and promises to be "an entertaining and informative editorial resource for discovering webOS 3.0 applications". Pivot will include original editorial, guest writers, features and reviews.

Almost 40 million security systems will be connected to European mobile networks in 2015

A new research report from Berg Insight forecasts that the number of tracking devices and wireless alarm systems monitored via mobile networks by alarm receiving centres will grow at the equivalent of 41% per year within Europe, from 7 million in 2010 to 39.2 million by the end of 2015.

The number of wireless machine-to-machine modules shipped for security applications will grow at an even higher rate, increasing from last year's figure of 2.4 million wireless M2M modules to 21.4 million in 2015.

Has Apple just patented the touchscreen?

Imagine a mobile phone that can’t be built without the permission of Apple. Impossible?  Unrealistic?  Not necessarily.

This week, Apple was awarded US patent 7,966,578. It's an application that was originally filed at the end of 2007, almost a year after the iPhone was first revealed.

Alcatel One Touch is an official partner for the Tour de France

The Alcatel One Touch brand, owned by TCL Communication, has signed a three-year partnership with Amaury Sport Organisation for the Tour de France and a number of other major cycling events.

It makes Alcatel one of the official partners for the cycling competition in 2011, 2012 and the 100th Tour de France in 2013.

New Android smartphones from Sony Ericsson

Sony Ericsson has added two new Android-powered smartphones to its Xperia range. Both devices will run Android v2.3 when they arrive in the autumn.

The aluminium-framed Xperia ray, which has a 3.3-inch screen and is less than 1cm thick, includes a 8.1-megapixel camera and 1GHz processor.
