Criminals are using the FIFA World Cup as an opportunity to trick mobile phone users into providing their bank details in exchange for non-existent prizes. The scam has the same basis as many spam email messages – "you've won a prize, give us your bank details for payment" – but it's being sent as an SMS text message. Recent incidents have been reported in Australia, although the problem could easily be international. FIFA has already warned football fans to be aware of email scams and internet hoaxes.

This year's Meffys Gala Awards saw the inventor of transparent capacitive touchscreens given an 'Outstanding Contribution' Award. Dr Andrew Hsu created the 'Transparent Projected Capacitive Touch Screen', which was patented in 1999 and first appeared on the LG Prada in 2006. Capacitive touchscreens are now used on most smartphones.
The Meffys are run by the Mobile Entertainment Forum (MEF), which is the global trade body of the mobile media industry.

Adobe Systems has announced the release of Adobe Flash Player 10.1 for mobile devices, following the availability of a beta product. It means that websites with Flash applications, animation and other audiovisual content will now be viewable on compatible smartphones.
