Mazoom, which operates mazoom.mobi, provides news, local business information and information about mobile apps in the UK and the USA.

Telefónica Digital has established a new business unit called Telefónica Dynamic Insights, which will work together with research company GfK.

The new unit will provide companies and public sector organisations with analysis based on anonymised information from its mobile networks.

Samsung announces 'Galaxy SIII mini' smartphone

Samsung Electronics has revealed a compact version of its flagship Galaxy SIII smartphone.

The Galaxy S III mini shares the larger device’s design but has a 4-inch screen rather than a 4.8-inch display. It also has a slightly lower spec, running Android 4.1 on a 1GHz dial-core processor and offering a 5-megapixel camera.

More than 1.5 billion WiFi-equipped devices will be shipped this year

The total number of WiFi-enabled device shipments worldwide will exceed 1.5 billion this year, according to ABI Research. That’s almost double the number of WiFi devices shipped in 2010.

In total, over 9 billion WiFi-enabled devices have been shipped since 2009.

UK becomes one of the world’s top ten information and communication technology economies

The International Telecommunication Union - the United Nations’ agency for Information and Communication technologies - has published its latest figures showing how the uptake of ICT is growing around the world.

Its latest annual report ranks the Republic of Korea (South Korea) as the world’s most advanced ICT economy, followed by Sweden, Denmark, Iceland and Finland. The UK is a new entry in the ICT top ten, moving up from last year’s 14th place to 9th place in 2012.
