Orange Wednesdays are joined by 'free film' Thursdays

Orange UK, which currently offers its customers an 'Orange Wednesdays' two-for-one cinema ticket promotion, is introducing a new loyalty scheme called Orange Film To Go. It's available to all Orange UK mobile phone and broadband customers.

Every Thursday, customers will be offered a free film to download from iTunes. The film can then be watched on a laptop, Mac, PC, iPad, iPhone or iPod Touch.

Feature phone app sales will almost double in the next five years

The app market for feature phones will almost double in revenue by 2016, according to a new report from Ovum. It expects revenue from feature phone applications to reach $1 billion within the next five years.

The report, entitled 'Opportunities for Mobile Development in the Mass Market', notes that the feature phone apps market hasn't yet taken off in the same way as smartphone app sales.

Foreign Office trials emergency text message service

The UK Foreign Office has launched a trial service with Vodafone to deliver emergency text messages to customers when they're abroad.

This service will be available to Vodafone UK subscribers and to customers on Vodafone-based virtual networks, including those using Asda Mobile, Lebara Mobile, Talkmobile, Talk Talk, BT Mobile, Gamma Telecom and Cognatel.
