GSMA announces new initiatives for mobile app privacy and efficiency

The GSMA, which represents the interests of mobile operators, has published a set of privacy design guidelines for mobile application development. A number of mobile operators in Europe have already committed to implementing the guidelines for their own-brand applications.

The guidelines aim to provide consumers with more information and more control about how apps use their personal information.

Voddler announces Dolby-encoded video streaming service

Video-on-demand service provider Voddler has announced the world’s first movie streaming service for smartphones using Dolby Digital Plus audio. It’s currently available for a number of Nokia Symbian devices and is initially being offered in Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland.

Dolby Digital Plus audio offers cinematic surround sound with Voddler’s streamed films.

Telefonica and Mozilla plan 'open web' low-cost HTML5 smartphones

Telefónica Digital and Mozilla have revealed plans to create a new mobile platform. It’s called the Open Web Device platform and will use HTML5 standards to deliver a smartphone-like device without premium pricing.

A Qualcomm chipset is currently being used for hardware development.
