SingTel plans acquisition of mobile advertising business Amobee

Singapore Telecommunications (SingTel) has signed an agreement to acquire Amobee, a US-based mobile advertising business. It’s paying around $321 million (£202 million) for the seven-year-old business.

Amobee's management team will remain in active control of the company.

Vodafone and BMW announce in-car telematics deal for Germany

BMW and Vodafone have announced a partnership that’ll see all new BMW cars in Germany fitted with a special machine-to-machine SIM card.

The Vodafone SIM will work with the BMW ConnectedDrive telematics system, offering a personal concierge service, traffic updates and an emergency call function.

Nokia announces closure of Ovi Share

Last year Nokia announced plans to rebrand its ‘Ovi’ services as ‘Nokia’. At the time it said the services wouldn’t be disrupted, although the company has now revealed plans to discontinue its Ovi Share service.

Web uploads to Ovi Share will be blocked from 13th March, with customers being given until 30th May to download all their content. Ovi Share will be discontinued from 31st May 2012.

European Parliament Industry Committee wants lower roaming rates

The European Parliament’s Industry, Research and Energy Committee says it wants to see wholesale roaming service suppliers cutting prices below the EU price cap. It’s approved legislation that would allow consumers to buy roaming services separately from their ‘home’ mobile service.

The new rules would also set limits on retail data roaming charges and would further reduce roaming price caps for calls and SMS text messages.

Mazuma Mobile announces partnership to delete data securely from recycled phones

UK mobile phone recycling business Mazuma Mobile has announced a partnership deal with BlackBelt SmartPhone Defence.

The two companies are working together to find secure and effective ways to completely wipe old information from recycled devices.
