The ICT Knowledge Transfer Network in association with UK Trade & Investment has announced a competition that’s offering a free showcase at next year’s Mobile World Congress for new mobile or wireless products that originate in the UK.
The competition, which is open to UK-based SMEs with an innovative new mobile/wireless solution or product, will see a small number of winners taking their place on the UKTI stand at Mobile World Congress 2012 in Barcelona.

Sony has announced launch dates for its first two Sony tablet devices.
The Sony Tablet S, due for a European release later this month in its WiFi-only form, has a 9.4-inch screen. A WiFi & 3G version is due in November. Also due in November, the Sony Tablet P is a folding device with two 5.5-inch screens.

Ofcom has published a statement on its plans to introduce so-called ‘white space’ technology in the UK. White spaces are the unused parts of frequency bands that have been reserved for other uses, such as TV transmissions.
The regulator says they could be used for a wide range of applications including rural broadband and WiFi with up to twice the range of today’s technology.
