Dixons CEO John Browett joins Apple as head of retail

John Browett, who’d been CEO of Dixons Retail since joining from Tesco in 2007, has been appointed as Apple’s new senior vice president of Retail.

He’ll report directly to Apple CEO Tim Cook.

New survey says Brits are still the biggest mobile shoppers in Europe

A new report carried out by the Centre for Retail Research and published by retail comparison site Kelkoo says shopping on mobile devices in the UK is set to increase by 53% in the next 12 months, with an estimated £4.5 billion being spent by mobile phone this year.

As a result, the UK will be Europe’s biggest mobile shoppers for the third year running, followed by Germany (£2.7 billion) and France (£1.9 billion).

European Commission starts investigation into Samsung Electronics

The European Commission has opened a formal investigation to assess whether Samsung Electronics has breached EU antitrust rules in the way it’s used some of its mobile-related patent rights.

It follows a number of legal cases in 2011 when Samsung claimed some of its patent rights had been infringed.

Launch of BlackBerry Business Cloud Services for Microsoft Office 365

Research In Motion has announced the general availability of BlackBerry Business Cloud Services for Microsoft Office 365.

It makes Microsoft Exchange Online available on BlackBerry smartphones and is available at no additional charge to medium-sized and enterprise subscribers of Office 365 or Exchange Online.
