ChaCha – a US-based service that answers questions sent via SMS text, online, Twitter, voice, Facebook and mobile apps – has just picked up $3 million of new funding that includes $900,000 from Qualcomm Ventures.
In total, the company has now raised approximately $75 million.

Former 'trolley bus' driver Aiden Quinn has pleaded guilty to gross negligence following a May 2009 crash in Boston that injured more than 60 people. It’s alleged he was distracted by sending a text message from his mobile phone. The crash is said to have caused $10 million of damage.

ABI Research has estimated that more than seven trillion SMS messages will be sent worldwide in 2011. With nearly 4.2 billion mobile subscriptions worldwide, that’s theoretically approaching five text messages per phone per day.

Vodafone UK says over three quarters of a million pictures were taken and sent by its customers yesterday as the country was hit by heavy snow. That’s 63% higher than the previous week, with early morning messaging – between 6am and 12 noon – up 155%.
