Samsung Electronics says it’s shipped more than 300 million mobile phones this year.
It’s the first time this figure has been reached since Samsung started producing mobile phones in 1988.

India, currently the world’s second-largest telecom market in terms of total subscriptions, will add almost 590 million connections to its fixed and mobile networks over the next five years. Meanwhile, China will add around 535 million.
That’s the prediction from Pyramid Research, which has recently published its latest India Intelligence Report.

O2 has introduced what it claims is the first smartphone leasing service in the UK.
It’s called O2 Lease and will enable new or existing customers to lease a new smartphone for one year.

HP, which decided in August to stop producing webOS tablets and phones, has announced it will contribute its webOS software to the open source community.
The code of webOS will be made available under an open source licence, while HP says it intends to remain active in the development and support of webOS.

Cloud communications Twilio, which launched its services in the UK earlier this year, has raised an additional $17 million in funding from Bessemer Venture Partners and Union Square Ventures.
Both companies have previously invested in Twilio.
