Arriva has sold more than one million mobile tickets for UK bus journeys

Arriva UK Bus, part of the Arriva Group owned by Deutsche Bahn, says it's now issued mobile tickets for more than one million bus journeys.

The company's m-ticketing service was introduced 18 months ago and currently has 40,000 registered users.

Everything Everywhere gets new CEO as Tom Alexander quits

Everything Everywhere says CEO Tom Alexander is resigning "for personal reasons and to pursue other interests". He'll step down on 31st August 2011 and will be replaced by non-executive director Olaf Swantee, who's currently France Telecom’s Executive Vice President of Operations in Europe.

Mr Alexander will continue to advise the company until the end of the year.

Police now using mobile-enabled fingerprint scanners

The National Policing Improvement Agency is rolling out new mobile fingerprinting devices to police forces across England and Wales.

These devices will allow officers on the beat to check an individual's identity within two minutes, even if the person is unconscious.

BBC launches crowd-sourcing app to check UK mobile coverage

The BBC is conducting a month-long survey that's designed to measure the availability of 2G and 3G mobile phone services in the UK. It's using an Android application that'll collect information and will anonymise it.

The UK 3G Survey app has been developed for the BBC by Epitiro.

ZTE plans own-brand devices for UK via Brightpoint

ZTE Corporation has signed an agreement with the European distribution business of Brightpoint to provide own-branded smartphones and tablet devices to the UK.

The Chinese telecoms company - best-known in the UK for providing 'white label' devices - has previously said it expects to ship more than 80 million handsets this year, up from 60 million units in 2010.
