There are bad weeks... and there are BAD weeks. Blackberry had one of the latter. It all started so well. The company announced a new flagship phablet – the Z30 – and said it would be launching its BBM instant messaging service for iOS and Android handsets at the weekend.

Yesterday BlackBerry announced its preliminary quarterly results and also provided an update on its plans for the business.
It says it’s expecting to make a loss of between $950 million to $995 million (up to £621 million) in the past quarter, with most of this value being written-off due to poor sales of the Z10 smartphone.

Made in Mind, the UK company behind the award-winning Mu folding smartphone charger, has signed a production and distribution agreement with Hong Kong-based Tektos.
It’ll enable Made in Mind to expand distribution beyond the UK.

New figures from technology research company Gartner anticipate that 102 billion applications will be downloaded from mobile app stores this year, up from 64 billion in 2012.
Less than one in ten of those apps will be chargeable to download, according to Gartner’s forecasts.

A new report from Juniper Research expects mobile phones to be used for money transfers by almost 400 million people worldwide in 2018.
That’s more than two and a half times this year’s total, which is expected to be just under 150 million.
