The GSMA - the mobile operator trade organisation - has chosen Barcelona as the Mobile World Capital from 2012 to 2018. Barcelona has beaten Milan, Munich and Paris in the final vote.
This means it'll host the GSMA Mobile World Congress (as it has done for several years) and will also develop a range of other activities throughout the year.

GetTaxi has launched its mobile-based UK taxi ordering service today.
The company, which already offers GetTaxi in Israel and plans to expand into much of Europe, enables smartphone owners to order a London taxi without speaking to anyone.

Last week, mobile application developer Handmark said it was turning its social apps business and mobile ad services group into a new company.
That subsidiary has now launched under the name of OneLouder Apps.

Vodafone has published an interim management statement for the three-month period that ended on 30th June 2011.
It says group service revenue was up 1.5% year-on-year, with reduced mobile termination rates holding it back from what would otherwise have been a 3.9% increase.
