ExclusiveGoogle Goggles lets you search from photos on your mobile

Google has announced a new search option for users with Android-powered mobile phones. Google Goggles lets you search using images taken with the mobile phone's camera. The company says it's currently particularly good at generating results from pictures of books, DVDs, landmarks, logos, contact information, artwork, businesses, products, barcodes and text.

Next year looks likely to see GPS-equipped mobile phones becoming more affordable. Nokia has just announced its Nokia 2710 Navigation Edition, which is expected to go on sale in Q2 2010 at 110 Euro SIM-free (around £99 excl. VAT). The one-piece 'candybar' format Nokia 2710 Navigation Edition – which uses Nokia's Series 40 operating system - has the Nokia Maps application pre-loaded. Basic mapping and route planning is free, with turn-by-turn voice-guided navigation available as a chargeable extra.

ExclusiveDon't expect any short-term changes for Vodafone and Verizon

The partnership between UK-based Vodafone and the USA's Verizon Wireless is unlikely to change in the short term, according to a number of analysts. However, it's thought that the possibility of a merger between Vodafone (which owns 45% of Verizon Wireless) and Verizon Communications (which owns 55%) is becoming more likely in the longer term.
