Low-cost smartphone sales expected to double this year

A new report from Deloitte says sales of smartphones costing under $100 are expected to more than double this year. The consultancy has calculated there’ll be at least 500 million of these low-cost devices in use worldwide by the end of this year.

It’s thought around 200 million sub-$100 smartphones were being used at the end of 2011.

Over half a billion mobile banking users expected next year

The number of mobile banking users worldwide will reach 530 million by 2013, up from just over 300 million last year, according to a new report from Juniper Research.

It says mobile services are becoming a fundamental component of banks’ business strategies as they respond to the current economic climate.

Amscreen digital advertising signs get Vodafone M2M SIM cards

UK digital media network Amscreen has announced a ‘machine-to-machine’ deal that will see Vodafone SIM cards built in to every one of Amscreen’s electronic signs across Europe.

It follows Amscreen’s agreement to expand its BP forecourt signs into European petrol stations last July.

Apple publishes 2012 supplier responsibility report and reveals suppliers

Apple has published its 2012 Supplier Responsibility Progress Report, which details the company’s efforts to ensure and improve conditions for people who work on its behalf.

It’s also named its largest suppliers worldwide, providing a list of companies that handle materials, manufacturing and assembly of Apple products.
