Samsung Electronics has announced two new additions to its Galaxy smartphone series; the Samsung GALAXY Y DUOS and the Samsung GALAXY Y Pro DUOS.

The ‘Y’ designation means they’re aimed at younger users, while ‘Pro’ indicates a QWERTY keyboard.

Jawbone, which recently diversified from its focus on Bluetooth headsets and loudspeakers to produce the UP health-tracking wristband, has just announced it’s received $40 million in new funding.

The current round of funding came from Deutsche Telekom, Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, entrepreneur Yuri Milner and investors advised by J.P. Morgan Asset Management. It means the company has now received approaching $210 million from various investors.

Dr Irwin Jacobs, one of the seven co-founders of mobile technology giant Qualcomm Incorporated, is retiring from the board of directors at next year’s annual stockholder meeting. He’ll then be given the role of Founding Chairman and CEO Emeritus.

Dr Jacobs served as Qualcomm’s chief executive officer for 20 years, starting from the company’s founding in 1985. He remained as chairman until 2009.

The US International Trade Commission has ruled that certain Motorola Mobility products infringe on a Microsoft patent. Microsoft had said that several of its patents were affected, although the ITC said Motorola has only violated one of them.

This is an initial determination; a final decision is expected within the next six months.

Nokia is dropping the Symbian name for the latest release of its operating system.

In an announcement today, it said “The all new Nokia Belle (previously Symbian Belle) user interface will soon be available for download to some existing smartphones and begin shipping with a selection of smartphones that are already on the market.”
